August 1, 2019

Do you do a daily count with your class?

Maybe you use tally marks, or popsicle sticks, or straws?

Have you considered using 10 frames?

A few years ago, I started using 10 frames to add to our daily counting routine and it was a GAME CHANGER.

Counting & cardinality, composing and decomposing numbers are the backbone of mathematics instruction in primary education. Students need daily practice to be fluent with numbers!

Give your students that daily practice using 10 frames!

Each day, add a sticker (or #teacherhack : print out seasonal images and tape them on!) and count how many days. Have students explain their thinking, “I know it is 3 because I counted!” or “I know it is 7 because 5 on the top plus 2 on the bottom is 7!”.

You will be amazed at how flexible with numbers they become, and how confident they are in explaining their thinking.

This resource also helps students learn to count by 10’s and counting on.

Just print, laminate and you are ready for the year! šŸ™‚
